New 246-unit community on Columbus’s East Side provides affordable, family-sized housing for households earning 60% of Area Median Income
COLUMBUS, OH — DevCo Residential Group and its affiliates, DevCo Development and DevCo US Construction, celebrated the grand opening of Havens Edge Apartments, a new 246-unit affordable housing community on Columbus’s Far East Side. The community represents DevCo Residential Group’s first affordable housing development in Ohio.
Financed in partnership with the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) and Fifth Third Bank, Havens Edge provides income-restricted housing for households earning at or below 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
Developed by DevCo Development and constructed by DevCo US Construction, Havens Edge brings much-needed affordable, family-sized housing to an area identified by DevCo’s development team as having a shortage of larger affordable apartment homes.
The grand opening brought together DevCo leadership, financing partners, development and construction partners, community stakeholders, and members of the Columbus community. The celebration included guided property tours, remarks from project stakeholders, and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Rooted in the Community
Havens Edge is located along Refugee Road on Columbus’s Far East Side, near the Whitehall and Bexley neighborhoods. The development team identified a need for additional affordable housing options for larger households and families in the area.
“This community is for households that will generally make between $40,000 and $80,000 a year,” said Trevor Martinez, DevCo’s Midwest Development Manager. “Those are families that are comprised of teachers, nurses, single parents, caregivers, and other members of the community. We’re excited to welcome them into this neighborhood and provide stable, high-quality housing.”
DevCo US Construction served as general contractor on Havens Edge, leading construction and coordinating the dozens of subcontractors and tradespeople that helped bring Havens Edge to completion. For Sam Buckingham, President of DevCo US Construction, the milestone reflects the involvement of everyone who helped turn those plans into a finished community.
“Projects like this don’t happen by accident — it takes a shared vision, strong partnership, and a lot of hard work from people who genuinely care, not just about the buildings, but about who we’re building them for,” said Buckingham. “Every single one of these partners took plans on paper and turned them into real walls, real roofs, real homes. That’s no small feat.”
Fifth Third Bank’s involvement extends beyond financing. The bank plans to provide Havens Edge residents with financial wellness resources, financial literacy programming, and access to banking services at preferred rates.

Affordable, Family-Sized Housing on Columbus’s East Side
As Columbus continues to grow, the need for affordable housing remains a critical priority. Havens Edge addresses that need by offering modern two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartment homes for households earning at or below 60% of the AMI.
Approximately half of the community’s 246 apartment homes feature three or four bedrooms, helping address the demand for larger, affordable homes for families in the Columbus metropolitan area.
Havens Edge offers a range of community amenities, including a fitness center, community room, and playground. Each apartment is equipped with an in-unit microwave and high-speed internet access, providing residents with modern conveniences in an affordable housing setting.
The community also features an array of solar panels designed to offset a significant portion of the property’s energy consumption, supporting the project’s long-term energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
