DevCo Residential Group and The City of Renton’s Community & Economic Development Department held the grand opening of Astra and Solera Apartments on June 21
RENTON, WA (JUNE, 2025) – The official ribbon cutting for Astra and Solera Apartments was on Saturday, June 21, to celebrate the latest development as part of the Sunset Area Transformation Plan.
Together, these adjacent communities will bring nearly 600 new homes to the Renton Highlands area, helping to meet Renton’s growing population and housing needs.
“The completion of the Astra and Solera developments are incredible examples of what can happen through well-designed private-public partnerships. The transformation of the Sunset area is a project nearly 20 years in the making, and the addition of 600 market-rate and workforce housing units will be another crucial element in the Sunset neighborhood’s revitalization. It’s a successful model, and one we hope to continue,” stated City of Renton Mayor Armondo Pavone.

Located along Sunset Boulevard, both communities are north of the Renton Highlands Library and Sunset Neighborhood Park.
Over the past 15 years, the city has worked with public and private partners to revitalize the Sunset Area and transform this neighborhood from World War II-era housing to a walkable mixed-use neighborhood. The completion of Solera and Astra adds to the area’s mix of affordable and market-rate housing, along with amenities such as the King County Library, Meadow Crest accessible playground, and 3-acre Sunset Neighborhood Park. Public infrastructure projects have also contributed to the revitalization efforts, such as a regional stormwater facility, street improvements, and utility upgrades.
Astra Apartments is a 275-unit affordable housing community offering modern one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments, along with townhome layouts. Residents can enjoy amenities such as a fitness studio, indoor basketball court, business center, courtyard, and a pet-friendly environment with an off-leash dog park. Solera Apartments is market-rate housing with 315 units to include one- to three-bedroom apartments and townhomes. Residents can access amenities, including a 24-hour fitness center, indoor sports court, gated garage parking, an off-leash dog park, a community courtyard, and a business center. After the ribbon cutting, neighbors and the community enjoyed a complimentary event featuring guided property tours, local businesses and city resources, and a variety of food trucks and live entertainment.
